There are always times when 24 hours in a day seem to not be enough. Life is an action word and it keeps us busy with work, family, social calendars and any number of other activities one could imagine.
Don’t let your perceived lack of time create a crippling lack of effort.
There is always enough time for the things we want to do. I’d bet you spend several hours a day watching TV or playing video games or even sleeping – we make time for all kinds of things in our always hectic schedules that give us false comfort. How about making a little time for your personal goals or objectives? Could it be we postpone our success because really working toward our goals is a little uncomfortable? I mean that book isn’t going to write itself, you know! Those clothes aren’t going to sell themselves, [@Cynthiadoll]!
I can imagine all the groans out there. One says, “Well, I need to work on my marketing plan,” another goes, “I don’t have my website together yet,” and still another says, “I don’t have the money.” These are excuses, just like the “no time” excuse.
You may very well need to work on your marketing strategy, or get your website off the ground, or find a few extra bucks to get your personal goal off the ground, but guess what – even without these things, you can still work on some element to get going. You have time.
All too often people get by on looking like they are doing something, rather than actually getting something done. Career students, keep going to school in an attempt to have every bit of knowledge imaginable before they implement their big idea. Other people attend every networking event and seminar imaginable, so they can connect to the “right people” when they finally launch. These same people look at successful people and wonder how they did it!
They tried. Before they had a lot of free time, before they knew everything, before every element was decided, and before they had the perfect marketing plan, they stepped out and made the effort. Then, they loved the work and the benefits enough to keep going.
The best way to get our goals off the ground is to put down all the excuses and just do them. When you do, two things happen:
a) You will know relatively quickly if your big idea is truly what you are passionate about. After spending time truly working on your project, you find yourself tired, or no longer enthused about the idea – you can stop and you have lost nothing. [Go figure; I knew within 90 days that corporate wasn’t for me when I started in it eight years ago!]
b) You will learn just how much you can do with a little bit of well invested time. Thus, you’ll be less likely to hesitate on getting your next idea big going. Success breeds success.
You could always continue accumulating degrees and experience, and talking about that big dream or goal that you are going to launch when the time is right. Or you can realize the right time is when you stop dreaming and do it. You will always be too broke or tired or old, but you are the only one responsible for getting your goals going – stop waiting on the perfect climate and set aside at least an hour a week, today.

You hit me right on the head with this one! I REALLY needed to hear that today. I am a bit of a procrastinator and my goals and dreams are forever being pushed aside because of my “limited time, or “limited funding” and as you stated if I don’t stop waiting it will be just that. A dusty dream in a box on the back of the shelf.
*picks myself and gets my supplies and makes a move!
Thanks for the awesome words!
The Mormons have a wonderful saying:
“When you pray, move your feet.”
“I mean that book isn’t going to write itself, you know!”

You didn’t have to yell at me though!!

This is a dope post indeed! U jus put the phrase “timing is everything” to shame. It’s crazy how we train our minds2 believe we don’t have enough time. “All too often people get by on looking like they are doing something, rather than actually getting something done.” «—-this is very true! But with that being said… I have realized I need to stop procrastinating & making excuses and manage my time more effectively, so that I can successfully fulfill my goals or not… Many timeswe get wrapped up n thinkin time is on our side, when as u so wonderfully pointed out–its NOT!
i have always figured if one is not prepared then one’s time will never come. waiting for tomorrow has never made me a bit of difference.. in my mind the time is will always be now knowing what i do with my moments make all the difference.. piece and blessings..
Right on to this entire read. An excuse will hold you back from anything – if you let it; still using that very same excuse as being the reason that you’re still stuck right where you are. Self accountability is a hard lesson to learn, but it’s very necessary. Trust me… I know. =o)
