Brown Girls Do Ballet® – Chair of the Board

Brown Girls Do’s purpose is to promote diversity in the arts by providing annual scholarships, a mentor network, and community programs to empower young girls.  Brown Girls Do Ballet’s® mission is to help increase participation of underrepresented diverse populations in ballet programs through organizing and arranging ballet performances, photo exhibitions, and providing resources and scholarships to assist young girls in their ballet development and training. Our mission is supported by merchandise sales and fundraisers.

NAAWLI

The National African-American Women’s Leadership Institute (NAAWLI), Inc. is a registered non-profit and the premier resource for connecting, educating and empowering African-American women leaders to become trailblazers in global leadership; demonstrating a strong focus on establishing a development focused network dedicated to building a more inclusive corporate community.  With over 20 years of serving and developing African American Women Leaders, NAAWLI, continues to evolve and provide a culturally relevant program that encourages African-American women to discover and maximize their leadership potential.

I have served as secretary and vice-chair of the board for NAAWLI in the past.

Iron Dallas

Initiating Relationships to Organize New Beginnings or IRON exists to provide recently relocated African-Americans who have arrived in Dallas a sense of community through personal and professional development programs and connections to seasoned professionals. African Americans tend to have higher rates of unemployment and underemployment which impacts their ability to accumulate savings.  IRON Dallas is dedicated to helping African Americans build networks, skills, and relationships to impact their ability to grow and establish a sense of connection to the communities relocate to.

EduColor

EduColor’s mission is to mobilize advocates nationwide around issues of educational equity, agency, and justice. We amplify the works and ideas of students, educators, and communities of color through supportive on- and off-line networks and professional development.  EduColor seeks to reframe the conversation to ensure that students, teachers, and communities get a seat at the table everywhere and anywhere.

Starting With Today

Starting With Today’s mission is to create, sustain, and enhance professional, mental, and financial wellness by providing customized training and resources to underserved adults.

Starting With Today (SWT) promotes Black wellbeing and liberation through community programs and advocacy training. By strategically partnering with small Black businesses and community hubs in Wards 7 and 8 of Washington DC and Prince George’s County within the Beltway, SWT creates safe learning spaces for adults to organize, raise awareness, create collective solutions, heal, and have tools, language, and training to better advocate for ourselves, our families, our communities, and the Black collective.

Step Afrika!

Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! is the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Under Mr. Williams’ leadership, stepping has evolved into one of America’s cultural exports, touring more than 60 countries across the globe, and the Company now ranks as one of the top ten African-American dance companies in the United States.  Step Afrika! promotes stepping as an educational tool for young people, focusing on teamwork, academic achievement and cross-cultural understanding. The Company reaches tens of thousands of Americans each year through a 50-city tour of colleges and theaters and performs globally as Washington, DC’s one and only Cultural Ambassador.
